Rainmatter Capital
About
Rainmatter Capital is the venture arm of Zerodha — India’s largest stock brokerage by active client base — founded in 2016 by Nithin Kamath and Kailash Nadh, and headquartered in Bengaluru. Rainmatter was born from Zerodha’s belief that for any organisation to thrive, it must invest in building a healthy ecosystem around it. What started as a fintech-focused incubator has evolved into one of India’s most mission-driven early-stage investors, committing ₹1,000 crore in total capital with ₹275 crore deployed in 2024 alone across 47 startups. To date, Rainmatter has backed 150+ companies, with a portfolio spanning one unicorn (CRED) and multiple acquisitions including Streak and Onco. Unlike conventional VCs, Rainmatter operates with a perennial structure — no exit clauses, no board seats, and patient capital that prioritises long-term societal impact over short-term financial returns. Its investment thesis has expanded from fintech (smallcase, Ditto, Digio) to climate tech, healthcare (The Whole Truth, Ultrahuman), and storytelling — sectors Nithin Kamath describes as megatrends of the future. Rainmatter Foundation, its non-profit arm, reinforces the fund’s commitment to environmental sustainability and regenerative practices.
